Occupying the space between ornament and architecture, this 6'1" × 9'2" hand-knotted Pak-Persian rug brings together wool and silk on a cotton foundation to reinterpret the classical medallion format with heightened refinement and visual contrast. The 0.5 pile allows the silk highlights to subtly catch the light, introducing a quiet luminosity that distinguishes the surface without disrupting the rug’s traditional structure. At the heart of the composition lies an intricately layered medallion, set against a saturated red field that immediately establishes depth and formality. Surrounding it, an elaborate network of floral vines, palmettes, and arabesques (intertwined flowing vines) unfolds in measured symmetry. Ivory motifs soften the intensity of the red ground, while navy and aqua lend cool counterbalance and clarity to the scrolling forms. Accents of blue and lime appear sparingly, adding energy and movement, while touches of pink and gold, often emphasized through silk, create moments of delicate shimmer within the design. The border of the rug is richly articulated, using alternating bands of floral and curvilinear patterns to frame the medallion and reinforce the rug’s classical rhythm. What makes this rug distinctive is the dialogue between material and design: the softness of silk elevates the medallion and select motifs, while the wool foundation preserves structure and durability. It is particularly well suited for formal living rooms, reception spaces, or studies where it can act as a focal anchor, offering depth, craftsmanship, and elegance.

Story Behind the Art: Hand-knotted rugs are Pakistan's second-largest cottage and small industry that began as early as the 11th century under the Mughal rule. The craftsmen have the capacity to produce any type of rug using all the popular motifs of guls, medallions, paisleys (botehs), traceries, and geometric designs in various combinations .But the Pak Persian rugs are a quality best defined by their 16 by 18 KPSI count yielding over 288 KPSI or the common 300 KPSI quality which makes them exceptionally dense and enduring for high traffic area. Initially produced to address the vacuum when the US stopped trading with Iran in the 1970s, these rugs have persisted and are quite popular due to their superior weaving and array of design choices.
