Story Behind the Art: Donegal Design Rugs first emerged in the late 1800s when Morton & Company established the Irish rug industry in Donegal. These hand knotted wool rugs combined Oriental and Persian influences with Celtic motifs and the aesthetics of the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements, creating richly decorative designs with a distinctly Irish character. Their expansive patterns, natural palettes, and exceptional craftsmanship gave them a unique versatility, fitting seamlessly into both traditional and modern interiors. Today, Donegal inspired rugs are experiencing a major revival, admired for their timeless artistry, heritage appeal, and ability to elevate diverse décor styles.
