Story Behind the Art: Chobi rugs have a rich lineage rooted in Persian, Turkman and Afghan cultures. Woven in the Peshawar region of Pakistan, these rugs reflect the rugged terrain they are manufactured in. In fact, the word “Chobi” signifies colors of wood. So, it is highly significant that the majority of Chobi rugs have brownish hue or earth tones palette. This rug has been made with vegetable dye and finest quality of hand-spun lanolin rich wool. It is the use of such vegetable dyes that give Chobi Peshawar their distinctive abrash quality (gently wavering shades of color across the pile), and their distinctive character.
