Story Behind the Art: Shiraz rugs are hand-knotted village rugs from around Shiraz in Iran’s Fars Province traditionally woven by nomadic tribes like the Qashqai and Afshari. They feature bold geometric patterns (diamonds hexagons) tribal motifs of animals and plants and warm earthy colors like red orange and brown. Made from 100% hand-spun wool dyed with natural pigments these durable rugs have lower knot counts (40–150 KPSI) but strong construction. Unlike intricate city rugs Shiraz rugs are simpler more rustic and reflect a lived-in tribal charm.
