Hand-knotted from wool, our Peshawar rug fills its rust brown field with cream flowers and vines, then frames them with a wide cream border. Pale blue rosettes and soft tan palmettes run through the border, and a thin brown outline holds it all together. The open pattern gives the deep center room to breathe, and the contrast keeps every flower easy to see. The dense pile is pet and kid friendly and wears evenly, and short fringe finishes each end. Vacuum regularly with the beater bar off and it will keep its crisp look. Rust and cream pair easily with warm woods, tans and soft blues. A traditional area rug with a classic Persian-style layout, it brings plenty of warmth.

Story Behind the Art: Hand-knotted rugs are Pakistan's second-largest cottage and small industry that began as early as the 11th century under the Mughal rule. The craftsmen have the capacity to produce any type of rug using all the popular motifs of guls, medallions, paisleys (botehs), traceries, and geometric designs in various combinations. While the "stone washes" are used to fade and soften colors, the Peshawar style is characterized by a thinly sheered pile, large print designs, and most predominantly, their antique ivory and sometimes golden tones.
