Celebrating the elegance of 18th-century French decorative arts, this 8'1" x 10' hand-knotted Aubusson Savonnerie rug exemplifies precision and poise in textile design. Woven from fine wool at a remarkable 300 KPSI density, it features a low 0.30-inch cut pile on a durable cotton foundation. The rug’s ivory field is framed by baroque-style scrollwork and floral garlands in blush, rose, tan, and mint tones, paying homage to classical French interiors that favored symmetry and soft contrast. Perfect for formal living rooms, parlors, or refined bedrooms, it lends a sense of compositional balance and quiet grandeur. The fine knotting enhances the clarity of each botanical detail, while the muted pastel palette ensures versatility within both antique and contemporary spaces.

Story Behind the Art: The Savonnerie rugs have their origins in French pile floor coverings that were produced at the Savonnerie Manufactory, most prestigious factory of knotted pile rugs, that enjoyed its greatest period during 1650-1685. Today the name Savonnerie depicts the tradition of knotted pile Savonnerie rugs with their unique design and color schemata of essentially French designs, pictorial or armorial framed medallions, densely massed flowers in bouquets or leafy rinceaux against deep blue, black or deep brown grounds, within multiple borders. Further what distinguishes French Aubusson Savonnerie rugs is the technique of depth perspective that was invented by 17th century French artists and weavers whereby the patterns in the rug seem three dimensional. As such, Aubusson Rugs exhibit complex color patterns, symmetrical knots and flamboyant designs. Today, it is still possible to enjoy these rugs as they continue to be replicated in India, Pakistan, China.
