Hand knotted in wool, this antique Turkish rug comes from the Oushak weaving region, long recognized for its soft, sun faded palette of rust, rose, and beige, colors. A pole medallion runs down the center in ivory and terracotta, elongated rather than round, a shape distinct to Oushak design and rarely seen in other Turkish weaving traditions. Rosette motifs scatter across the open rust colored field around the medallion, framed by a wide border of small octagonal florals in warm gold and coral tones. A secondary border near one end brings in a row of stylized shield forms, adding an unexpected graphic touch to the otherwise floral composition. As a genuine antique rug, this piece is noted to be in excellent condition with no low pile or staining, a rare find for a weaving of its age. The silky sheen across the wool is characteristic of fine Oushak pieces and tends to deepen with time rather than fade. *As with most photography, colors may appear a shade more vivid on screen than they do in natural light. Expect the true tones to be a bit gentler in person.
